THE ROBIN HOOD VIRUS
EPISODE 8: "HOSPITAL STARTUPS"
TEASER
FADE IN:
EXT. RURAL VILLAGE - UGANDA - DAY
A dusty road leads to a small village where children play with makeshift toys. A YOUNG WOMAN carries a SICK CHILD who breathes with difficulty. She looks desperately toward a dilapidated building with a faded red cross that serves as the local clinic.
ARJAY (V.O.)
They say necessity is the mother of invention. But what happens when those in need have no voice? When the systems designed to help them have failed? In places like this, a doctor is a luxury that comes once a month, if you're lucky.
INT. CLINIC - CONTINUOUS
The clinic is barely operational - broken equipment, empty medicine cabinets, and only one OVERWORKED NURSE tending to a room full of waiting patients.
ARJAY (V.O.)
One doctor for every fifty thousand people. Medicine that costs more than a month's wages. This is healthcare for billions around the world. Not because we can't do better, but because the money flows where profit lives, not where lives can be saved.
EXT. ABANDONED HOSPITAL - DETROIT, MICHIGAN - DAY
A once-proud hospital building stands boarded up, with "CLOSED DUE TO BUDGET CUTS" spray-painted across the entrance.
ARJAY (V.O.)
And it's not just in developing nations. Even in America, hospitals in poor communities are shutting down. Money talks. Always has. The question is: what if we changed who was doing the talking?
SMASH CUT TO:
INT. NETWORK OPERATIONS CENTER (NOC) - NORTHERN ARIZONA - NIGHT
A state-of-the-art facility hidden in a converted warehouse. Multiple screens display financial data, hospital blueprints, and global maps with highlighted locations. SIX PEOPLE work intensely at their stations.
ARJAY (V.O.)
We're not Robin Hood. We're something more dangerous—we're idealists with the skills to act. They say money can't buy happiness, but it can buy hospitals. And we know exactly where to find that money.
DUCK (40s, commanding presence) stands at the center of the room, looking at a global display showing funds being redirected.
DUCK
Transfer complete. One hundred and seventy-five million in diverted funds. Plus one hundred and sixty million in donations.
PAULA (30s, brilliant programmer) spins in her chair with a smile.
PAULA
That's enough to break ground on the first three hospitals.
ARJAY (V.O.)
We call ourselves the Robin Hood Virus. Not because we steal from the rich and give to the poor—though we do—but because once we infect the system, everything changes.

ACT ONE
FADE IN:
INT. NOC CONFERENCE ROOM - NORTHERN ARIZONA - MORNING
A sleek conference room with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Arizona desert. The team gathers around a large table. DUCK THOMPSON (40s, former military intelligence, now WRHC President) stands at the head of the table.
The team includes: ARJAY MICHAELS (30s, genius programmer with a past), PAULA CHEN (30s, cybersecurity expert), PACO RODRIGUEZ (late 20s, logistics specialist), ROB WELLS (40s, former construction manager), PABLO SUAREZ (30s, medical systems expert), and TRENT WILLIAMS (20s, brilliant hacker prodigy).
Duck taps a tablet and the wall screen displays "WORLD RURAL HOSPITAL CORPORATION" with the new logo.
DUCK
This is the day everything changes. As of nine this morning, World Rural Hospital Corporation is officially a registered non-profit with operations in twelve countries.
PACO
How legitimate are we talking?
DUCK
(smiling)
Fully. We've got all the proper 501(c)(3) paperwork. Board of directors comprised of respected doctors and humanitarian workers—all of whom believe firmly in our mission and none of whom know about our... fundraising methods.
PAULA
I've finished securing our digital infrastructure. Anyone looking into WRHC's finances will see nothing but legitimate donations and grants.
ARJAY
(skeptical)
And the money trail?
DUCK
Untraceable. Thanks to your virus, the funds we've... redistributed... have been washed cleaner than hospital sheets.
ROB
(reviewing blueprints on his tablet)
These hospital designs are ready for deployment. Prefabricated, modular, solar-powered. We can have one up and running within 90 days once we break ground.
PABLO
And the medical technology packages are ready. Everything from basic diagnostics to telesurgery capabilities. State-of-the-art while remaining practical for the environments we're entering.
TRENT
(looking up from his laptop)
Uh, guys? We've got a problem. Someone's probing our network.
The mood in the room shifts dramatically as everyone turns to Trent.
TRENT
It's subtle. Professional. Doesn't look like law enforcement. More like... competition.
DUCK
Paula?
PAULA
(moving to Trent's station)
Let me see... This is sophisticated. They're using a distributed approach to mask their origin.
ARJAY
Let them in.
PAULA
(surprised)
What?
ARJAY
Not all the way in. Just enough to get a fingerprint. Then we follow them home.
CUT TO:
EXT. WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION HEADQUARTERS - GENEVA, SWITZERLAND - DAY
Establishing shot of the WHO headquarters.
INT. WHO ANALYST'S OFFICE - CONTINUOUS
JASMINE KING (40s, intelligence analyst) studies multiple screens showing data about the newly formed WRHC.
JASMINE
(to herself)
Where did you come from with all that money?
Her phone rings.
JASMINE
(answering)
King.
DR. WILLIAMS (O.S.)
(through phone)
Have you tracked down information on that new NGO?
JASMINE
World Rural Hospital Corporation. They appeared out of nowhere six months ago and now they're breaking ground on hospitals in Uganda, Sierra Leone, and rural Kentucky. Their financials check out, but...
DR. WILLIAMS (O.S.)
But what?
JASMINE
It's too perfect. No organization mobilizes this fast. And their funding sources are impeccably documented, yet somehow vague.
DR. WILLIAMS (O.S.)
Keep digging. If they're legitimate, we want to partner with them. If not...
JASMINE
I understand.
She hangs up and returns to her investigation. A pop-up appears on her screen: "INTRUSION DETECTED."
JASMINE
(alarmed)
What the...?
Her screen goes black, then displays a simple message: "LOOKING FOR US? WE'RE THE GOOD GUYS. ARE YOU?"
CUT TO:
INT. NOC - NORTHERN ARIZONA - SIMULTANEOUS
Paula and Trent monitor the connection to Jasmine's computer.
PAULA
WHO intelligence. They're running a background check on us.
DUCK
That was fast. We only launched publicly last week.
ARJAY
They're good at their job. Question is, what do we do about it?
DUCK
We show them exactly what they need to see. Nothing more, nothing less.
PAULA
I'm pushing our prepared package to her system now. Full transparency on the hospitals, sanitized donor list, credentials that check out but don't lead anywhere interesting.
DUCK
And what about our first hospital groundbreaking in Uganda next week? Do we delay?
ARJAY
(decisively)
No. We move forward. It's time to show the world what we can do.
CUT TO:
EXT. RURAL HOSPITAL SITE - EASTERN UGANDA - ONE WEEK LATER - DAY
A large crowd has gathered at a clearing where construction equipment stands ready. Banners for World Rural Hospital Corporation flutter in the breeze. A stage has been set up with local OFFICIALS and DUCK in formal attire.
ARJAY (V.O.)
The thing about changing the world is that sometimes you have to do it one building at a time. Our first hospital would serve a region where one doctor currently tried to care for fifty thousand people.
A LOCAL LEADER steps up to the microphone.
LOCAL LEADER
(in accented English)
Today marks the beginning of a new chapter for our community. For too long, our people have suffered without proper medical care. Today, that changes.
The crowd applauds as Duck approaches the microphone.
DUCK
At World Rural Hospital Corporation, we believe healthcare is a human right, not a privilege. This facility will be the first of many across the world. It will employ local workers, train local healthcare professionals, and serve everyone regardless of their ability to pay.
As Duck continues his speech, we see ROB coordinating with LOCAL CONSTRUCTION WORKERS near the equipment.
DUCK (CONT'D)
We're not just building a hospital. We're building a future.
The crowd erupts in applause as Duck and the officials ceremonially break ground with shovels.
CUT TO:
INT. TEMPORARY CONSTRUCTION OFFICE - EASTERN UGANDA - LATER THAT DAY
Rob works with LOCAL ENGINEERS, reviewing plans on a digital display.
ROB
The prefabrication factory goes here. We'll train your people to cast the panels, then assemble them on site. Within three weeks, we'll have the structure up.
LOCAL ENGINEER
And you say all of this will be powered by solar?
ROB
(nodding)
That's right. The entire roof will be a solar field. We'll be energy-independent, with backup generators for emergencies.
PACO enters, carrying a tablet.
PACO
Rob, the first shipment of materials has cleared customs. They'll be here tomorrow morning.
ROB
Perfect. And the training personnel?
PACO
Already at the hotel. We start the first training session with local workers tomorrow at 0800.
LOCAL ENGINEER
(impressed)
You move very quickly for an NGO.
PACO
(smiling)
We like to think of ourselves as more... action-oriented than most.
CUT TO:
INT. NOC - NORTHERN ARIZONA - NIGHT
Arjay studies multiple screens showing construction progress, financial flows, and global news coverage of their groundbreaking.
ARJAY (V.O.)
While Duck played the public face of our organization, the rest of us kept the machine running. Money continued to flow from those who would never miss it to those who desperately needed it.
Pablo enters with coffee, handing a cup to Arjay.
PABLO
You should get some sleep. We've got the night shift covered.
ARJAY
Can't. WHO is still sniffing around. Plus, we've got the Detroit site survey tomorrow.
PABLO
The abandoned Riverside Hospital?
ARJAY
Yeah. Perfectly good facility shut down three years ago because the neighborhood couldn't "support its operation financially." Translation: too many uninsured patients.
PABLO
(sighing)
I worked in a hospital like that in Baltimore. We turned away people every day who needed help but couldn't pay.
ARJAY
(determinedly)
That's why we're doing this. No more turning people away.
Pablo nods and moves to leave.
PABLO
Paula wanted me to tell you—she found something weird in the financial records of MedGlobal Technologies.
ARJAY
(interested)
What kind of weird?
PABLO
The kind that suggests they might have known we were coming. Like they moved money just before our virus could reach it.
Arjay's expression darkens.
ARJAY
Nobody should have known about our targeting algorithm. Nobody.
END OF ACT ONE
ACT TWO
FADE IN:
EXT. ABANDONED RIVERSIDE HOSPITAL - DETROIT - DAY
Duck and Rob walk through the neglected property. Despite being abandoned, the main structure appears sound. Windows are boarded up, graffiti covers some walls, but the building itself stands strong.
DUCK
What's your assessment?
ROB
(tapping on his tablet)
Structure is solid. We'd need to replace about 60% of the mechanical systems, all the medical equipment obviously. But the bones are good.
DUCK
Timeline?
ROB
Six months from funding to opening doors if we fast-track it.
DUCK
And cost?
ROB
About forty million to do it right. Add another ten if we want to expand the emergency department and add the trauma center.
DUCK
Make it fifty then. This neighborhood deserves the best.
As they walk, they notice a group of LOCAL RESIDENTS watching them curiously. ELDERLY WOMAN approaches.
ELDERLY WOMAN
You folks buying this place?
DUCK
(smiling warmly)
We're considering reopening it as a full-service hospital.
ELDERLY WOMAN
(hopeful but skeptical)
Heard that before. Two years ago some developer was gonna turn it into condos. Never happened.
DUCK
Ma'am, we're not developers. We're World Rural Hospital Corporation. We build and operate hospitals where they're needed most.
ELDERLY WOMAN
Well, we sure need one. Since Riverside closed, nearest emergency room is forty-five minutes by bus. Lost my neighbor last year 'cause the ambulance took too long.
DUCK
(sincerely)
I'm sorry to hear that. May I ask your name?
ELDERLY WOMAN
Gladys. Gladys Washington. Been in this neighborhood fifty-two years.
DUCK
Well, Ms. Washington, I promise you this—if we take on this project, that hospital will reopen, and it will serve this community for at least the next fifty-two years.
CUT TO:
INT. NOC - NORTHERN ARIZONA - SAME TIME
Paula and Trent work together, reviewing code on multiple screens. They're trying to figure out how MedGlobal might have anticipated their virus.
PAULA
It doesn't make sense. The algorithm should have been undetectable until it executed.
TRENT
(frustrated)
Unless someone knew what to look for.
Arjay enters, carrying coffee for everyone.
ARJAY
Any progress?
PAULA
(shaking her head)
Nothing conclusive. But I think we need to consider the possibility we have a leak.
ARJAY
(frowning)
That's a serious accusation.
PAULA
I know. But MedGlobal moved exactly $43 million to offshore accounts exactly 72 hours before our virus was set to execute. That's too precise to be coincidence.
TRENT
(nervous)
You don't think one of us...?
ARJAY
No. The core team is solid. But we've had to bring in specialists, consultants. The network is growing.
PAULA
Which means our vulnerability grows too.
ARJAY
Run a full security audit. Check everyone who's had access to any part of our systems in the last six months.
Paula nods and begins typing rapidly.
CUT TO:
EXT. RURAL HOSPITAL CONSTRUCTION SITE - UGANDA - DAY - THREE WEEKS LATER
The transformation is remarkable. The prefabrication factory is operational, and the hospital structure is taking shape. LOCAL WORKERS, trained by Rob's team, efficiently move panels into place under the supervision of WRHC personnel.
ARJAY (V.O.)
While we sorted through our potential security issue, work continued at record pace in Uganda. Rob's prefabrication system was even more efficient than we'd hoped.
Rob walks through the site with Paco, both wearing hard hats and looking pleased with the progress.
ROB
We're ahead of schedule by nearly a week. At this rate, we'll have the structure completed in another ten days.
PACO
Then two months for interior systems and equipment installation?
ROB
That's right. We're still on track for a ninety-day total build time.
They pass by a group of LOCAL WORKERS operating the panel-casting equipment with expertise.
PACO
The training program is working well. These guys picked up the techniques faster than we expected.
ROB
That's the beauty of this system. Simple to learn, hard to mess up. And now they've got skills they can use for other construction jobs when we're done here.
As they talk, a black SUV pulls up to the site. Two men in business suits exit—JAMES HOWARD (50s, WHO official) and DR. EMMANUEL MBEKI (40s, Ugandan Health Ministry).
JAMES
(extending hand to Rob)
Mr. Wells? James Howard, World Health Organization. This is Dr. Mbeki from the Health Ministry.
ROB
(shaking hands)
Welcome to the site. What can we do for you gentlemen?
DR. MBEKI
We're here to conduct an inspection. Your project has attracted quite a bit of attention for its... unprecedented speed.
ROB
(smiling confidently)
Happy to give you the tour. We've got nothing to hide.
CUT TO:
INT. PREFABRICATION FACTORY - CONTINUOUS
Rob leads Howard and Dr. Mbeki through the operation, showing how local workers cast panels and prepare them for installation.
ROB
Each battery can produce twenty-five panels per day. We're running three batteries, so that's seventy-five structural panels daily.
DR. MBEKI
(impressed)
And the quality control?
ROB
Every panel is tested to exceed international building code standards. We're building this to last fifty years minimum.
JAMES
(skeptical)
Mr. Wells, forgive my directness, but most NGOs take years to plan, fund, and execute a project of this magnitude. WRHC appeared seemingly overnight with full funding and an operational plan. You can understand our curiosity.
ROB
(unfazed)
Mr. Howard, in my experience, most projects fail not from lack of know-how but from bureaucracy and funding delays. We've eliminated both problems.
CUT TO:
INT. NOC - NORTHERN ARIZONA - NIGHT
Duck has returned from Detroit and is in a video conference with Rob, who reports on the WHO visit.
ROB
(on screen)
They spent four hours going through everything. Plans, materials, financials—the works.
DUCK
And?
ROB
Dr. Mbeki was impressed. The WHO guy, Howard, seemed suspicious but couldn't find anything to object to.
DUCK
Did they say why they were really there?
ROB
Not directly, but I got the impression they wanted to know where our money and expertise is coming from. They're not used to seeing things happen this efficiently.
DUCK
Keep them close. If they want to help, let them. If they're just watching, give them something worth seeing.
Duck ends the call and turns to find Arjay waiting.
ARJAY
We've got a problem.
DUCK
Tell me.
ARJAY
Paula finished the security audit. We don't have a leak in our team.
DUCK
(confused)
That's good news, isn't it?
ARJAY
It would be, except for one thing. The only way MedGlobal could have known about our virus is if they were already looking for something like it.
DUCK
Meaning?
ARJAY
Meaning we might not be the only ones using this playbook.
CUT TO:
INT. LUXURY PENTHOUSE - MANHATTAN - NIGHT
A sleek, minimalist apartment with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Central Park. VICTOR REID (50s, immaculately dressed) studies multiple screens showing WRHC activities. One screen shows Duck and Arjay in the NOC.
VICTOR
(to himself)
Amateurs. Talented, but amateurs nonetheless.
His phone rings. He answers.
VICTOR
Tell me you have good news.
FEMALE VOICE (O.S.)
We've located their primary facility. Northern Arizona, just outside Flagstaff.
VICTOR
And the team?
FEMALE VOICE (O.S.)
Six core members. Led by a former military intelligence officer named Duck Thompson.
VICTOR
(smiling)
Interesting choice of name. And their virus?
FEMALE VOICE (O.S.)
Similar architecture to ours, but cruder. They're skimming rather than replacing.
VICTOR
Keep monitoring. Don't interfere yet. I want to see what they do with the Detroit project.
He hangs up and pours himself a drink, studying the screens thoughtfully.
VICTOR
(raising his glass)
To worthy opponents.
END OF ACT TWO
ACT THREE
FADE IN:
EXT. RURAL HOSPITAL - UGANDA - DAY - TWO MONTHS LATER
The completed hospital gleams in the sun, solar panels covering the roof. A large crowd has gathered for the opening ceremony. Banners proclaim "WRHC DISTRICT HOSPITAL" in both English and local language.
ARJAY (V.O.)
Eighty-four days from groundbreaking to ribbon cutting. A new record, they said. What they didn't know was that while one hand was cutting ribbons, the other was already busy elsewhere.
Duck stands on a stage with local officials and WHO representatives, including James Howard who now looks genuinely impressed. Medical staff in white coats wait nearby.
DUCK
(addressing the crowd)
Today, we fulfill a promise—not just to build a building, but to create a center of healing that belongs to this community. This hospital employs over two hundred local staff, from doctors and nurses to technicians and administrators.
The crowd applauds enthusiastically.
DUCK (CONT'D)
But we're not just providing jobs. We're providing care. From today forward, no one in this district will go without medical attention because they cannot afford it.
More applause, even louder.
DUCK (CONT'D)
And this is just the beginning. As we speak, construction is beginning on our next hospital in Sierra Leone, and we're about to renovate an abandoned facility in Detroit.
The local HEALTH MINISTER steps forward to cut the ribbon. As they do, we see Pablo in the crowd, speaking quietly into his communication device.
PABLO
(quietly)
Opening ceremony is concluding. Commence Phase Two.
CUT TO:
INT. HOSPITAL LOBBY - MINUTES LATER
Duck leads James Howard and other officials on a tour. The hospital is state-of-the-art despite its rural location.
JAMES
(genuinely impressed)
I'll be honest, Mr. Thompson. When I first heard about your organization, I had serious doubts. NGOs make big promises all the time.
DUCK
But we deliver.
JAMES
So it seems. The WHO would be interested in potentially partnering with WRHC on future projects.
DUCK
We'd welcome the collaboration, Mr. Howard.
As they walk, Pablo approaches urgently.
PABLO
(professionally)
Mr. Thompson, I apologize for the interruption, but there's an emergency call from Detroit.
DUCK
(to the officials)
Please continue the tour. Our medical director will show you the operating theaters.
Duck steps aside with Pablo.
DUCK
(quietly)
What's happening?
PABLO
Riverside Hospital in Detroit - we've got competition. Another group just filed paperwork to purchase the property.
DUCK
Who?
PABLO
A subsidiary of Global Health Partners. They're offering cash, fast track.
DUCK
(concerned)
Get me back to the NOC. We need to move now.
CUT TO:
INT. NOC - NORTHERN ARIZONA - NIGHT
The team is assembled, with Duck having returned from Uganda. Screens display information about Global Health Partners and the Riverside Hospital situation.
DUCK
What do we know about them?
PAULA
Global Health Partners appears legitimate on paper. Private healthcare development company, specializes in "revitalizing underperforming medical facilities."
TRENT
Yeah, by turning them into boutique hospitals for the wealthy. They've done it in Chicago, Atlanta, and Miami.
ARJAY
This isn't a coincidence. They announced their bid for Riverside exactly one day after our Detroit site survey.
DUCK
What's our timeline?
ROB
City council votes on the bids next week. GHP is offering $15 million for the property. Cash.
DUCK
And we're offering?
ROB
$12 million, with guarantees about serving the community regardless of ability to pay.
DUCK
(decisive)
We need to move faster. Paula, I want our complete proposal ready by tomorrow morning. Trent, find me everything you can on the city council members - voting records, positions on healthcare, personal connections to GHP.
PAULA
What about our funding? Do we match their offer?
DUCK
(shaking head)
No. We go bigger. $20 million for the property, plus a commitment to invest another $50 million in the renovation. And we add a community health education center.
PACO
That's a $70 million commitment. Can we get that much?
ARJAY
(typing rapidly)
Leave that to me.
CUT TO:
INT. ARJAY'S PRIVATE WORKSPACE - NOC - LATER THAT NIGHT
Arjay works alone, running complex code sequences. Multiple screens show financial data flowing through global banking systems.
ARJAY (V.O.)
They say you should never let your emotions drive your decisions. But sometimes, emotion is exactly what you need. Rage at injustice. Passion for what's right. And in this case, a healthy dose of competitive spirit.
He executes a final command sequence. Numbers flash across the screen: $75,000,000 TRANSFER COMPLETE.
ARJAY
(to himself)
Let's see them match that.
CUT TO:
INT. DETROIT CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS - ONE WEEK LATER - DAY
The council meeting is in progress. The room is packed with community members, many wearing buttons that say "SAVE RIVERSIDE FOR THE PEOPLE."
At the front, representatives from both organizations wait to present. Duck represents WRHC, while CATHERINE MORTON (40s, polished executive) represents Global Health Partners.
COUNCIL PRESIDENT
We'll now hear proposals regarding the former Riverside Hospital property. First, from Global Health Partners.
Catherine approaches the podium confidently.
CATHERINE
Thank you, Mr. President, council members. Global Health Partners is prepared to offer $15 million in cash for the Riverside property. Our plan is to create a modern medical facility that will bring jobs and healthcare services back to the neighborhood.
She displays sleek architectural renderings on the presentation screen.
CATHERINE (CONT'D)
Our focus will be on creating a sustainable business model that ensures the facility remains operational for decades to come, unlike the previous hospital which failed financially.
Murmurs from the crowd, some positive, some negative.
COUNCIL PRESIDENT
Thank you, Ms. Morton. Now we'll hear from World Rural Hospital Corporation.
Duck approaches, making eye contact with community members as he walks to the podium.
DUCK
Members of the council, residents of the Riverside community - I'm not here to make promises about a sustainable business model. I'm here to make a commitment to restore healthcare as a right to this neighborhood.
He places a document on the council table.
DUCK (CONT'D)
WRHC is offering $20 million for the property. We will invest an additional $55 million in renovations and equipment. The hospital will reopen within six months, employ at least 200 local residents, and will never - I repeat, never - turn away a patient due to inability to pay.
The crowd erupts in approval. Catherine looks stunned.
DUCK (CONT'D)
Additionally, we will establish a $5 million community health education center that will provide training for healthcare workers and health education for residents.
COUNCIL MEMBER
Mr. Thompson, these are extraordinary promises. How can you guarantee fulfillment?
DUCK
The entire $80 million is already in escrow with the city. If we fail to meet any of these commitments, the money becomes the property of the Riverside community trust.
More cheers from the crowd. Catherine frantically confers with her colleagues.
CATHERINE
(interrupting)
Mr. President, Global Health Partners would like to amend our offer to $25 million.
DUCK
(calmly)
Our bid stands at $80 million total investment, with guarantees of community service. But more importantly—
Duck gestures to the crowd.
DUCK (CONT'D)
—ask them what they want. This isn't just about money. It's about restoring a vital service that this community lost.
GLADYS WASHINGTON (the elderly woman from earlier) stands.
GLADYS
I've lived in Riverside for over fifty years. That hospital saved my husband's life once, and my grandson was born there. Then they closed it because people like us couldn't pay enough. If you're asking what we want—we want our hospital back. Not some fancy clinic for rich folks from downtown. Our hospital.
The crowd applauds loudly.
CUT TO:
EXT. DETROIT CITY COUNCIL BUILDING - LATER
Duck exits to cheers from community members. His phone rings.
DUCK
(answering)
It's done. The council voted unanimously for our proposal.
ARJAY (O.S.)
Good. But we've got another situation. Paula found something about Global Health Partners. You need to get back here.
CUT TO:
INT. NOC - NORTHERN ARIZONA - NIGHT
The team gathers around as Paula displays information about Global Health Partners.
PAULA
They're a shell company. Three layers deep, but when you follow the money, they're owned by this man.
She brings up a photo of Victor Reid.
ARJAY
Victor Reid. Former NSA cybersecurity specialist. Now supposedly runs a private equity firm.
DUCK
And?
PAULA
And his firm has been involved in exactly fifteen hospital acquisitions in the last three years. All in underserved communities. All converted to specialty practices.
TRENT
But here's the weird part. His firm shouldn't have the capital for these purchases. Their legitimate holdings don't add up.
DUCK
(realizing)
He's doing what we're doing.
ARJAY
Exactly. But with a different endgame. We divert money to restore healthcare. He diverts money to privatize it.
PACO
So he's like... anti-Robin Hood?
PAULA
The Sheriff of Nottingham.
ARJAY
And now he knows about us. The Detroit bid was a test. He wanted to see what we'd do, how far we'd go.
DUCK
(grimly)
Which means we've just painted a target on our backs.
ARJAY (V.O.)
They say no good deed goes unpunished. What they don't tell you is that the bigger the good, the bigger the punishment someone might try to deliver.
CUT TO:
INT. VICTOR REID'S PENTHOUSE - MANHATTAN - NIGHT
Victor watches news coverage of WRHC winning the bid for Riverside Hospital. He doesn't look upset—he looks intrigued.
VICTOR
(speaking to someone off-screen)
They outbid us by fifty-five million. Where did they get that kind of capital?
FEMALE VOICE (O.S.)
We're tracking the money now. It's... creative. Multiple sources, all carefully laundered.
VICTOR
(impressed)
Almost as good as our system.
FEMALE VOICE (O.S.)
Should we proceed with counter-measures?
VICTOR
(considering)
Not yet. I want to meet them first.
FEMALE VOICE (O.S.)
Meet them? That's risky.
VICTOR
The best way to defeat an enemy is to understand them. And I'm not convinced they're enemies... yet.
He picks up his phone and dials.
VICTOR
(into phone)
Get me everything on Duck Thompson's background. Military service, family, weaknesses. Everything.
END OF ACT THREE
ACT FOUR
FADE IN:
EXT. RIVERSIDE HOSPITAL - DETROIT - DAY - ONE MONTH LATER
The abandoned hospital is now a hive of activity. Construction crews remove boarded windows, repair the exterior, and renovate the interior. A large banner reads "RIVERSIDE COMMUNITY HOSPITAL - REOPENING SUMMER 2025 - A WRHC PROJECT."
ARJAY (V.O.)
They say the best defense is a good offense. So while we knew Victor Reid was watching us, we decided to give him something worth watching.
Rob oversees the construction, consulting with crew leaders and checking plans. Duck arrives and they walk the perimeter together.
DUCK
How are we looking?
ROB
Ahead of schedule, actually. The structure was in better shape than we expected. We'll have the emergency department ready in four months, the rest within six.
DUCK
And the community response?
ROB
(smiling)
We've got more local volunteers than we know what to do with. And applications for jobs are pouring in.
They stop to watch as a crew installs new energy-efficient windows.
DUCK
Any sign of our friends from Global Health Partners?
ROB
(quietly)
Nothing obvious. But there's been a black SUV parked across the street on and off. Different driver each time.
DUCK
Keep security tight but discreet. I don't want to alarm the community.
Duck's phone rings with a text. He checks it and his expression becomes serious.
DUCK
I need to get back to base. Keep things running here.
CUT TO:
INT. NOC - NORTHERN ARIZONA - NIGHT
Duck enters the main operations room where Arjay, Paula, and Trent are gathered around screens displaying alarming information.
DUCK
What happened?
PAULA
We've been probed. Sophisticated attack. Someone trying to map our network infrastructure.
DUCK
Reid?
ARJAY
Almost certainly. The techniques match NSA protocols from when he was there.
TRENT
(nervously)
Did they get in?
PAULA
No. But they weren't really trying to. This was reconnaissance.
DUCK
What do they know about us?
ARJAY
They know our general location. They know about our Uganda and Detroit projects. And they suspect our fundraising methods.
DUCK
But they don't have proof.
ARJAY
(shaking head)
No hard evidence. But they're looking.
TRENT
So what do we do? Go dark? Relocate?
DUCK
(firmly)
No. We don't run. That's exactly what Reid would expect.
PAULA
We could try to hack them back. See what they know.
ARJAY
Too risky. If Reid worked at NSA, his security will be top-notch.
DUCK
(thoughtfully)
We need to know more about him. What his endgame is.
A secure phone on the wall rings. Everyone freezes, almost no one has that number.
Duck answers cautiously.
DUCK
This is Thompson.
VICTOR (O.S.)
Mr. Thompson. Victor Reid. I think it's time we had a conversation.
The team exchanges alarmed looks.
CUT TO:
INT. UPSCALE RESTAURANT - PHOENIX, ARIZONA - NIGHT
A private dining room in the back of an exclusive restaurant. Duck enters alone, scanning the room cautiously. Victor Reid sits at a table, drinking wine. No visible security, but Duck knows they're there.
VICTOR
(standing, extending hand)
Mr. Thompson. Thank you for coming.
DUCK
(shaking briefly)
You didn't leave much choice. How did you get our secure line?
VICTOR
(smiling)
The same way you acquired 175 million in diverted funds and 160 million in, shall we say, motivated donations.
Duck sits across from Victor, face revealing nothing.
VICTOR
Don't worry. This isn't an ambush or a threat. Consider it... professional courtesy.
DUCK
Professional? What profession would that be? Corporate raider? Cyber thief?
VICTOR
(chuckling)
That's rich coming from you. But let's be honest with each other. We're in the same business, wealth redistribution.
DUCK
With different goals. We build hospitals that serve communities. You shut them down and build boutique clinics.
VICTOR
Oversimplification, but essentially correct. The difference is sustainability. Your model requires constant... fundraising. Mine creates self-supporting institutions.
DUCK
That exclude those who can't pay.
VICTOR
(shrugging)
Market economics. But I didn't invite you here to debate healthcare policy.
He slides a folder across the table. Duck opens it warily.
DUCK
What's this?
VICTOR
The name of the WHO analyst who's been investigating WRHC. She's good, Jasmine King. Former MI6. Another week, and she'll have enough to present to her superiors.
DUCK
Why tell me this?
VICTOR
Because I'm proposing a truce. You stay out of my territory, I'll help you with your WHO problem.
DUCK
And what exactly is "your territory"?
VICTOR
I have a list of target facilities. You avoid them, we both continue our work undisturbed.
DUCK
(pushing folder back)
Not interested. We go where we're needed.
VICTOR
(harder edge now)
Don't be foolish. You've done impressive work, but you're amateurs. I've been doing this for fifteen years.
DUCK
(standing)
Thanks for the wine. And the warning about the WHO.
As Duck turns to leave:
VICTOR
Detroit was just a test, Duck. I wanted to see what you'd do, how far you'd go. I'm impressed, truly. But consider carefully, you don't want me as an enemy.
DUCK
(turning back)
Nor you us, Mr. Reid.
CUT TO:
INT. NOC - NORTHERN ARIZONA - NIGHT
Duck reports back to the team about his meeting with Victor Reid.
ARJAY
So he knows everything.
DUCK
Not everything. But enough to be dangerous.
PAULA
What about this WHO investigator?
DUCK
Jasmine King. We need to neutralize that threat immediately.
TRENT
(alarmed)
Neutralize? You don't mean—
DUCK
(reassuring)
I mean give her something else to focus on. A bigger fish than us.
ARJAY
(realizing)
Reid.
DUCK
Exactly. If King is as good as Reid says, she'll be more interested in a fifteen-year operation than our ten-year-old startup.
PABLO
Can we trust anything Reid told you?
DUCK
No. But we can verify it. Paco, I want you on a plane to Geneva tomorrow. Reconnaissance only. Find out what King knows about us.
PACO
On it.
ARJAY
And Reid's warning about territory?
DUCK
(firmly)
We stick to the plan. Uganda is operational. Detroit is underway. And Sierra Leone breaks ground next month.
PAULA
(concerned)
He'll push back. You basically declared war.
DUCK
Then we better be ready when he does.
CUT TO:
EXT. SIERRA LEONE HOSPITAL SITE - DAY
Aerial view of another rural location where preliminary work has begun for a new WRHC hospital. Surveying equipment and initial land clearing is visible.
ARJAY (V.O.)
While Reid pondered his next move, we accelerated ours. Sierra Leone has one doctor for every 50,000 people. We were about to improve those odds dramatically.
On the ground, Paco (returned from Geneva) works with LOCAL OFFICIALS, reviewing site plans.
PACO
The prefabrication factory will be set up here, and we'll run the same training program we used in Uganda.
LOCAL OFFICIAL
And you really believe you can complete this in three months?
PACO
(confidently)
Our Uganda facility was finished in 84 days. We're aiming for 80 here with the lessons we learned.
As they talk, a helicopter approaches and lands nearby. ARMED MEN in military uniforms exit, followed by a GOVERNMENT MINISTER not previously involved in the project.
GOVERNMENT MINISTER
(to Paco)
This project is temporarily suspended pending review of your organization's credentials.
PACO
(shocked)
What? We have all the proper authorizations—
GOVERNMENT MINISTER
New information has come to light questioning the source of your funding. All work stops immediately.
Paco sees an expensive car pull up. A European businessman exits—one of Victor Reid's associates.
CUT TO:
INT. NOC - NORTHERN ARIZONA - NIGHT
The team watches the Sierra Leone situation unfold via satellite feed. Paco is on video conference explaining what happened.
PACO
(on screen)
They've impounded our equipment and revoked our work permits. The minister wouldn't say who provided the "new information."
DUCK
But we all know.
ARJAY
Reid works fast. He must have contacts in the Sierra Leone government.
PAULA
What about our local workers?
PACO
(grimly)
Sent home. Told the project is canceled.
DUCK
(angry)
It's not canceled. It's delayed.
ROB
What's our counter-move?
DUCK
Pablo, what's the status of our WHO operation?
PABLO
Jasmine King received our anonymous tip about Reid's activities yesterday. She's already requesting resources to investigate.
DUCK
Push harder. Get her everything we have on Reid's hospital conversions. And Arjay—
ARJAY
(anticipating)
Time to deploy the contingency virus?
DUCK
Yes. If Reid wants to play hardball, we'll show him what that really means.
CUT TO:
INT. VICTOR REID'S PENTHOUSE - MANHATTAN - NIGHT
Victor reviews information about the Sierra Leone intervention, looking pleased. His assistant, ELENA VOSTOK (30s, former intelligence operative) enters.
ELENA
Sierra Leone operation successful. WRHC project shut down indefinitely.
VICTOR
And Detroit?
ELENA
More complicated. They have strong local support and solid contracts with the city. We're working on it.
VICTOR
(thoughtfully)
They're more resilient than I expected. Passionate.
ELENA
Passion makes people careless.
VICTOR
Usually. But Duck Thompson is ex-military intelligence. He won't panic.
His computer chimes with a high-priority alert. Victor checks it, his expression darkening.
VICTOR
What the hell?
ELENA
What is it?
VICTOR
Someone just transferred fifty million dollars from our Cayman account to... World Rural Hospital Corporation.
ELENA
(shocked)
How is that possible? Those accounts are completely secure!
VICTOR
(fury building)
Apparently not.
His phone rings. The caller ID shows "DUCK THOMPSON."
VICTOR
(answering)
That was a mistake.
DUCK (O.S.)
Not from where I'm standing. Consider it a donation to our Sierra Leone project.
VICTOR
ou have no idea what you've just started.
DUCK (O.S.)
Actually, you started it. We're just better at finishing things. By the way, the WHO might have some questions for you soon about your hospital acquisitions.
VICTOR
controlled rage)
This is war, Thompson.
DUCK (O.S.)
No, Reid. This is healthcare.
The line goes dead. Victor throws his phone across the room.
FADE IN:
EXT. RIVERSIDE HOSPITAL - DETROIT - DAY - ONE MONTH LATER
The renovation has accelerated dramatically. The building exterior is completely restored, with new signage being installed that reads "RIVERSIDE COMMUNITY HOSPITAL." Construction crews work efficiently, and medical equipment is being delivered.
ARJAY (V.O.)
They say when you're in a fight, throw the first punch and make it count. Our fifty-million-dollar punch had Reid reeling, but we knew he wouldn't stay down for long.
Duck walks the site with Gladys Washington, showing her the progress.
DUCK
We've moved up our timeline. Emergency department opens in six weeks, full hospital services in three months.
GLADYS
(amazed)
How are you working so fast?
DUCK
Let's just say we found some... additional funding.
GLADYS
Those men in the black SUVs stopped showing up last week. The ones who were watching.
DUCK
(surprised she noticed)
You saw them?
GLADYS
(smiling)
Honey, I've lived in this neighborhood for fifty years. I notice everything.
Duck's phone rings—it's Pablo.
DUCK
Excuse me a moment.
He steps away to take the call.
DUCK
What's happening?
PABLO (O.S.)
We have a problem in Uganda. Someone cut off our medical supply shipment. Customs suddenly has "paperwork issues."
DUCK
Reid again. How bad?
PABLO (O.S.)
Critical supplies held up for at least two weeks. The hospital can't operate without them.
DUCK
Get everything you need from our emergency reserves in Kenya. Charter a plane if necessary.
PABLO (O.S.)
That will cost—
DUCK
(interrupting)
I don't care what it costs. That hospital stays open.
CUT TO:
INT. WHO HEADQUARTERS - GENEVA - SAME TIME
Jasmine King is in a meeting with her superior, DR. WILLIAMS, presenting her findings on a large screen.
JASMINE
Victor Reid's company has acquired fifteen hospitals in underserved areas over the past decade. In each case, the facilities were converted from general community hospitals to specialty centers serving wealthy clients.
DR. WILLIAMS
And you believe there's something unlawful about these acquisitions?
JASMINE
The funding sources are suspicious. His company shouldn't have the capital for these purchases.
DR. WILLIAMS
What about this other organization, World Rural Hospital Corporation?
JASMINE
(hesitating)
I've investigated them thoroughly. Their Uganda facility is operational and serving the community exactly as promised. Their Detroit project is ahead of schedule. Their funding is... unusual, but I've found no evidence of illegal activity.
DR. WILLIAMS
But you still have concerns?
JASMINE
(carefully)
Let's just say I have questions about the timing of their emergence and their rate of expansion. But unlike Reid's operations, their hospitals actually serve vulnerable populations. They're delivering on their promises.
DR. WILLIAMS
Keep digging on Reid. As for WRHC... monitor but don't interfere. Results matter.
CUT TO:
INT. NOC - NORTHERN ARIZONA - NIGHT
The team monitors the global situation. Multiple screens show their projects, Reid's counter-moves, and financial tracking.
PAULA
Reid's fighting back hard. He's frozen three more of our funding channels.
TRENT
And he's launched another cyber attack. More sophisticated this time.
ARJAY
(working at his terminal)
He's adapting to our security measures. Learning our patterns.
DUCK
What's our financial situation?
PAULA
We've secured most of our assets in new locations. We still have operating capital for about six months at current burn rate.
The main door opens, and Paco enters, looking exhausted from travel.
PACO
Good news from Sierra Leone. The suspension has been lifted.
DUCK
How?
PACO
(smiling)
Let's just say Reid's government contact suddenly found himself under investigation for corruption. And we were able to prove our funding was legitimate.
DUCK
The fifty million we took from Reid?
PACO
(nodding)
Perfectly clean now. And the local population pressured the government when they heard the hospital might not be built.
ARJAY
So we're back on track?
PACO
Breaking ground next week.
The celebration is interrupted by an alarm from Paula's station.
PAULA
(alarmed)
We've got a breach! Someone's inside our secondary firewall!
TRENT
(checking his screen)
It's Reid! He's using a zero-day exploit we didn't know about.
ARJAY
(typing frantically)
Shut down external connections. Air-gap the critical systems.
PAULA
Too late! He's downloading our project files!
The team works desperately to stop the intrusion. Finally:
ARJAY
(relieved)
Got him. Connection terminated.
DUCK
Damage assessment?
PAULA
(grim)
He got the Uganda operational files, Detroit renovation plans, and... our next target list.
DUCK
(concerned)
The hospital locations we were planning to build or renovate next?
PAULA
All twenty of them.
TRENT
That's bad, right?
DUCK
Very bad. He'll move to block us at every location.
ARJAY
(determined)
Then we need a new list. And a new strategy.
CUT TO:
INT. VICTOR REID'S OFFICE - MANHATTAN - DAY
Victor reviews the stolen files with Elena, looking triumphant.
VICTOR
Now we have them. Twenty targets across four continents.
ELENA
We can mobilize to secure these properties before they even approach them.
VICTOR
(smiling)
Exactly. Without new projects, their momentum dies.
His computer chimes with an incoming video call from an unknown number. He answers cautiously.
The screen shows Arjay, sitting alone in a darkened room.
ARJAY
Hello, Mr. Reid.
VICTOR
(surprised)
Mr. Michaels. Bold of you to call directly.
ARJAY
I wanted to thank you personally.
VICTOR
(suspicious)
Thank me? For what?
ARJAY
For taking our bait. The target list you stole? It's fake. While you've been focusing on those locations, we've secured funding and approvals for our actual next phase.
Victor's face falls as he realizes he's been tricked.
ARJAY (CONT'D)
Oh, and the WHO investigation into your activities? It's going well. Jasmine King is very thorough.
VICTOR
(angry)
This isn't over.
ARJAY
No, it's just beginning. But while we're having this chat, you might want to check your accounts again.
Victor quickly opens another screen and his expression turns to shock.
ARJAY
Another hundred million. This time to fund rural hospitals in areas where you've closed facilities. Poetic, don't you think?
VICTOR
(furious)
How are you doing this?
ARJAY
(smiling)
The same way you did for fifteen years. Difference is, we're better at it. And we have a better cause.
VICTOR
I will find you.
ARJAY
No, you won't. But don't worry, we'll keep sending updates about the hospitals your money is building.
The call ends. Victor smashes his hand against the desk in fury.
ELENA
(concerned)
What do we do now?
VICTOR
(coldly determined)
We find them. Whatever it takes.
CUT TO:
INT. NOC - NORTHERN ARIZONA - CONTINUOUS
Arjay disconnects from the call as the team watches from nearby.
DUCK
You enjoyed that too much.
ARJAY
(smiling)
A little. But it was necessary. Now he'll waste resources chasing ghosts.
PABLO
And our real expansion plan?
DUCK
Moves forward immediately. Five new projects launching simultaneously, Detroit suburbs, Nairobi, rural Mississippi, Indonesia, and back to Sierra Leone with double the resources.
PAULA
What about Reid? He won't give up.
DUCK
No, he won't. But now he's defensive, not offensive. And the WHO investigation will keep him busy.
ARJAY
(serious)
He's dangerous, Duck. More than ever now.
DUCK
I know. But so are we. The difference is, we're building something. He's just trying to profit.
CUT TO:
EXT. RIVERSIDE HOSPITAL - DETROIT - DAY - TWO MONTHS LATER
A massive crowd has gathered for the opening ceremony. The hospital is completely transformed, with new facilities, equipment, and staff. Community members look on with pride and hope.
ARJAY (V.O.)
They say the measure of success isn't what you build, but what you rebuild. By that standard, Riverside Hospital was our greatest achievement yet.
Duck stands at a podium, with Gladys Washington beside him. The ribbon is ready to be cut.
DUCK
Six months ago, this building stood empty. A symbol of how healthcare had failed this community. Today, it stands as a promise—that no one in Riverside will ever again go without the care they need.
The crowd cheers enthusiastically.
DUCK (CONT'D)
This hospital belongs to you. It will never close its doors to anyone, regardless of their ability to pay. That is the WRHC promise.
He hands the scissors to Gladys.
DUCK
Mrs. Washington, would you do the honors?
GLADYS
(emotional)
With pleasure.
She cuts the ribbon to thunderous applause. As the ceremony continues, Duck slips away to take a phone call.
DUCK
(into phone)
Yes?
JASMINE KING (O.S.)
Mr. Thompson. Jasmine King, World Health Organization.
DUCK
(cautious)
How can I help you, Ms. King?
JASMINE (O.S.)
I just wanted to inform you that our investigation into Victor Reid's operations has been... illuminating. We've found evidence of significant financial irregularities.
DUCK
I'm sorry to hear that. But what does that have to do with WRHC?
JASMINE (O.S.)
Nothing, officially. But I thought you should know that Mr. Reid appears to have left the country. His Manhattan office was emptied yesterday.
DUCK
(concerned)
Any idea where he went?
JASMINE (O.S.)
Not yet. But I suspect he's not done. Neither am I.
She hangs up. Duck looks troubled as Arjay approaches.
ARJAY
Problem?
DUCK
Reid's gone underground.
ARJAY
That's good, isn't it?
DUCK
Maybe. Or maybe it means he's planning something bigger.
They look back at the celebrating crowd.
ARJAY
Well, whatever he's planning, it doesn't change what we're doing. One hospital at a time.
DUCK
(nodding)
One hospital at a time.
CUT TO:
MONTAGE:
- The Sierra Leone hospital rising rapidly from the ground.
- A groundbreaking ceremony in Nairobi with Pablo leading the team.
- Paco overseeing construction in Indonesia.
- Rob reviewing plans for a new facility in Mississippi.
- Paula and Trent upgrading the NOC security systems.
- Arjay executing new financial transfers, diverting more funds to WRHC projects.
ARJAY (V.O.)
They say that when you fight monsters, you must be careful not to become one. We walk that line every day. Taking from those who won't miss it to give to those who need it most. Is it right? Is it just? All I know is, every hospital we build saves lives that would otherwise be lost.
The montage ends with Duck standing on a hilltop overlooking the completed Uganda hospital at sunset, watching patients and staff coming and going.
ARJAY (V.O.)
And maybe, just maybe, we're changing the world one building, one patient, one life at a time. That's what the Robin Hood Virus is really about. Not stealing, but healing.
FINAL SHOT:
INT. UNKNOWN LOCATION - NIGHT
A darkened room with multiple screens. Victor Reid sits alone, watching feeds from all the WRHC hospital locations. He looks obsessed, determined.
He types a message on his computer: "FOUND THEM."
The screen shows a satellite image zooming in on the NOC in Northern Arizona.
FADE TO BLACK.
FADE TO BLACK.
